DECK STAINING AND SEALING

First, we will inspect the wood to ensure what level of cleaning or stripping will best suit your needs

We will then outline the scope of the project to you so that you fully understand the work to be performed.

If cleaning is the option we decide on we will soft power wash the areas to be cleaned. Often times the areas to be sealed will require sanding

Other times the areas to be sealed will require stripping. If this is the option we decide on the process looks like this

1. Soft power wash

2. Apply the stripper

3. Soft power wash again

4. Apply a brightener

5. Soft power wash again

6. Sanding of the areas to be sealed

7. Apply the finish by spray, roll, or brush

There are typically 2 types of sealers an acrylic-based or an oil base

The finishes of both sealers come in a solid base, semi-transparent, transparent, and semi-solid with a multitude of colors and stains

The more pigment that is in the stain will provide a longer-lasting finish

Clear sealers tend to have a shorter life span

The solid and semi-solid stains tend to hide more of the grain while the semi-transparent and transparent allow the wood grain to appear more natural

As always, we will provide samples to assure your satisfaction and share our knowledge with you so that you know exactly what you’re getting

The acrylic base sealers seal by attaching to the wood on the outside of the grain

The oil-based sealer will penetrate the wood

Both sealers have their benefits

Typically the acrylic-based sealers last longer but aren’t quite as natural looking as the oil-based sealers

Acrylic bases clean up with soap and water

Oil bases clean up with paint thinner
